Welcome 👦👧boys and girls to Mathematics class. Today we will be going on an adventure where we will be exploring Infinite and Finite Sets.
What is a set?
A set is a collection of objects with common features.
What is an Infinite set?
An infinite set has unlimited or uncountable elements within a set.
Examples of an infinite sets
1. A= {2, 4, 6, 8......}
2. B= {1, 2, 3,4.......}
The dots in the sets above indicates that the sets have no ending.
What is a finite set?
A finite set has limited and countable elements within a set.
Examples of a finite sets
1. C= { cows, goats, sheep}
2. D= { apples, grapes, water melon}
👦👧Boys and girls watch the video clips for additional information on infinite and finite sets.
Now👦👧Boys and girls, we have learnt about infinite and finite sets. It's now activities time!!!
Task 1:
Search your home environment, write down all the possible objects and sort them into infinite and finite sets using the diagrams below. Infinite A and Finite B
Task 2: Write infinite or finite for each of the following sets.
1. set B {all the stars in the sky}________________
2. Set G {letters of the vowels} ________________
3. Set H { months of the year}________________
4. Set M { all the trees in the forest}_____________
5. Set K { all the students at Petersville Primary} _____________
6. Set R { the number of girls in grade 4} _______________
Task 3:
Match the terms to the correct definition.
Set has unlimited members in a set.
finite a collection of objects with common features.
infinite has countable members in a set.
curly bracket the number of elements in a set.
cardinality it's used to enclose the elements within a set.
